After an intense six weeks since winter break, I have been working with a team of three other students to produce design recommendations for the Broadway Market in Buffalo, NY. This is a class project, but we are working directly with the city of Buffalo and Market management. This experience, while very stressful at times, has been a great opportunity to work under specific design constraints.
All recommendations aim for high impact and low cost solutions. In the interior, the main solutions are a new color scheme and new wayfinding and vendor identification signage.
The final presentation, hosted by the Broadway Market, occurred this afternoon. As one of the four presenters, I feel that the event was a success. It was attended by Buffalo city officials, local residents, tenants of the market, and several local news outlets.

Throughout this quarter, I have been taking a glass elective, which has been very educational. There has been a large improvement from my first day in the flameshop since working with glass requires patience and close attention.
My final project for this class is a project that combines flameshop glass and coldworking techniques. Experimenting with shadow and space, I have designed a composition that includes my glass sculpture and wire letters. The wire has been tangled together to create pieces of letterforms. I have hung them from a board at various lengths and distances from the camera as shown below.

With very fine tuning, the letters were arranged so that from the camera’s perspective they were in alignment. I then took various compositions with the glass sculpture that I created. One of the images produced is shown below.

It is hard to believe that 2010 is officially here. This is a big year for me as graduation is getting closer and the job search is kicking in to full force. Back in Rochester the weather is quite cold, which has had an effect on my car. Sitting in the parking lot for two weeks, it was not happy to start when I returned from break. After a new battery, I should be all set to finish my last winter in Rochester.
